American SCR system uses no AdBlue E-mail

The main factor that is stoppingmost operators from specifying SCR-equipped Euro-4 and 5 trucks is the need to carry an onboard supply of AdBlue urea solution in order to provide the ammonia needed for the reduction of NOx emissions.

Now, a new system, which has been developed in the US, adds an extra stage to the emissions reduction process. This creates its own ammonia from the injection of hydrocarbons. Sincecurrent SCR systems already include a dosing system to inject fuel to burn off residue in the particulate trap, the new system will eliminate the extra weight and inconvenience of carrying AdBlue.

Eaton Corporation has just signed a non-exclusive global licensing agreement with Clean Diesel Technologies to incorporate the ARIS (Advanced Reagent Injector System) into emissions reduction systems ready for production by 2011. Eaton confirms that it is currently working with numerous global OEMs to provide NOx and particulate matter (PM)emissions reduction solutions.
